Did you know that you can get cheap, or even free homeschool resources, programs and curriculum online?
I am a mother to two daughters, ages 12 and 14. They began attending public schools in kindergarten, and continued their public education all the way up to junior high school.
As my children entered junior high school, they started complaining about the large class sizes, and not enough one-on-one time with their teachers. The step from elementary school to junior high was a big one, as several primary schools were combined to comprise the junior high population.
Along with their complaints about class sizes, my daughters began to be aware of smoking, bad language, and even alcohol use among their friends.
When they came to me with their concerns, I became concerned as well. I believe that public school is not for everyone, and when the girls expressed an interest in online homeschooling, my husband and I decided to let them try it out.
I did extensive research on the topic of homeschooling and wanted to find some cheap homeschooling online. I found several online schools, many of which charged high prices for their schooling.
To my surprise, after talking to the principal of my daughters’ junior high, I found out that our school district offers their own online homeschool program which we could utilize free of charge, as it is part of the state’s educational system.
I was thrilled with this idea, and began to explore this cheap homeschooling online option. I found that although every class in the junior high was not offered through the homeschool option, most of the core classes, and many electives were available to give students a varied education. Another plus is that the program extends into the student’s high school years, where they receive a high school diploma.
We signed up for in-district online homeschooling, and my daughters immediately took to it. They had full access to their teachers by email, and telephone. They joined homeschool groups for socialization and field trips. They are getting ready to enter high school, and we will continue to homeschool online.
While homeschooling may not be for everyone, it has provided my children an exceptional educational experience, and has kept them out of the nightmare that many public schools have become.
There are many cheap homeschooling online options available, but the free education my daughters get through their own school district has been the best decision we have ever made.
