Ivan Illich’s “Deschooling Society”: Learning Webs

After critiquing industrial education for the first five chapters, Illich offers his vision of a deschooled society. He says fours things must change in society: our learning style, our attitude to growing up, our tools for learning, and our structure of daily life. For the author a true learning environment would (1) have easy, perpetual access to resources, (2) enable anyone to teach, and (3) allow anyone the opportunity to present issues in a public sphere.
